The NFL has begun internally discussing the reinstatements of Saints coach Sean Payton and former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, according to a source with knowledge of their process. Payton, whose season-long suspension ends Feb. 3, has not officially applied for reinstatement, another source said, maintaining status quo, Williams' status is not clear, although he must apply to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for reinstatement from indefinite suspension. What's not clear is what must happen next. When the suspensions of general manager Mickey Loomis and linebackers coach Joe Vitt ended, they simply returned to work. The thought from those who have spoken with Payton is that he would be able to show up and return to work. According to the paperwork he was handed, there are no set guidelines for a reinstatement hearing, they were identical to those guidelines provided to Vitt and Loomis and the NFL said it is simply focused on the postseason. "We are focused on the playoffs right now," spokesman Greg Aiello said. "We are not going to comment on this matter. It will be addressed at the appropriate time." Source: NFL.com
What's to evaluate? If the suspension for Payton ends February 3rd, it ends the 3rd. What do they need go evaluate or investigate? Whether they want to heck him over more?!?
Peyton will be able to come back, but greg williams will be out at least another year! he and his son got fired from the rams today.
I think that the Saints wants Payton back as soon as possible so he can have some input on personnel and possible free agents coming in. Hope it is nothing but defensive guys. Some defensive tackles and corners. Maybe one or two safeties.
