Redskins coach is certainly to be under scrutiny after a story by the USA Today stated that Dr. James Andrews didn't clear Robert Griffin III to go back into game after his initial injury during the Ravens game on December 9th. Griffin was injured in the first quarter of the Redskins 24-14 loss to the Seahawks in today's Wild Card game. It was obvious that Griffin was limping but Shanahan elected to keep him in the game.

After the game, Shanahan was questioned about his decision.

"I think everybody could see after the first quarter that he wasn't always exactly the same, but I got a lot of players that aren't exactly the same, there's not a lot of quarterbacks that are exactly time this time of year," Shanahan said. "But I still thought he could go in there and make the plays he was capable of making against an excellent defense."

Shanahan said he had consulted with team doctors both before and during the game, saying he would not have played Griffin if they believed he was at risk of further injuring the LCL in his right knee.

"I'll probably second-guess myself when you take a look at the second half, should have I done it earlier?" he said. "I think you always do that, especially after you don't win."

"Robert said to me, 'Coach, there's a difference between injured and being hurt. I can guarantee I'm hurting right now, give me a chance to win this football game because I guarantee I'm not injured.' That was enough for me."

Everyone could see, how much the injury had an impact on RG III, everyone but shanahan appearantly. Sometimes coaches have to protect players, from themselfs....

On Mike & Mike this morning on ESPN Radio, they said something to the effect that a dr. can say no to a player not playing, but that a HC has to give the green light for a player to play. Or something to that effect.

Look at the way his freaking knee is bent.....They bypassed the Doctor....but...Coaches need to protect players from themselves constantly, from youth football all the way to the the Professional level, no one wants to be taken out of a game that really matters.
