For a guy who isn’t giving any interviews about Robert Griffin III’s knee, Dr. James Andrews is sure giving a lot of interviews about Robert Griffin III’s knee.

In fairness, Andrews is out promoting his book, “Any Given Monday,†which is what first brought him into the news. Since then, the surgeon has done several more book promotion interviews, and many of his wise interviewers — recognizing the topic of the moment — have asked Andrews about RGIII.

Thus, this, via Inside SoCal’sTom Hoffarth:

“Of course not,†Andrews said the other morning, asked if he was concerned how his actions were perceived. “People don’t understand what goes on down on the football field. [Mike Shanahan] didn’t know what we were really saying. I’ve put that all behind me now.â€â€¦

He said he wasn’t at liberty to explain how RGIII’s surgery went, only that he’s “well on his way to recovery†and, after eight months of projected rehab, he’ll likely start the 2013 season.

i heard yesterday that griffin blew his knee out in high school and college and now already in the pros.

how long is this guy going to be mobile? could he turn into the current version of michael vick sooner rather than later?

The wolves of the NFL will cull that Redskin herd starting with RGlll.

It's the nature of the beast. He'll be lucky to end up only as bad as Vick...

He's a better passer than Vick so he has a better chance of succeeding without being that mobile. But its only a matter of time before he's knocked out for good.

Sure he can run for yards, but he's a stupid runner. He takes hits he doesn't need to, and obviously they take their toll.

i was having a conversation with someone yesterday about what kind of QB's RG3, Wilson, and Kaep will be in 6 or 8 years (or less) when they can't run as well as they can right now.

He was making the case that they will all still be good pocket qb's because they seem to be good passers. i'm not sure i'm so sold on it. right now, a lot of what makes them successful with their arm is the fact that the defenses must account for their scrambling abilities. it loosens up the pass coverages they face. if defenses don't have to account as much for their running ability in the future, those pass coverages will become a LOT more difficult.

in addition, we started talking about the difference between a 'running' QB and a 'mobile' QB. In my mind, a lot of guys who aren't particularly good 'runners' can still be 'mobile' in the pocket because they feel what's going on around them, can avoid a sack while reading the coverage, and extend the play.

This is the problem with Michael Vick. at one time, he was an amazing 'running' QB. however, he has NEVER had good pocket awareness. he doesn't feel pressure. he doesn't know where it's coming from and even though he was fast, he would take a lot of sacks because he simply did not have pocket awareness.

We won't really know if any of these guys have true pocket awareness until they are forced to stay in the pocket all the time. right now, they are operating on pure physical ability and all they know is when the field opens up and they do not see an open receiver, they run and that's how they extend plays. they've never had to extend plays while staying in the pocket and they've never had to face pass coverages that pocket passers in the nfl face.
