The Bears added to their new coaching staff on Friday, hiring Mel Tucker as defensive coordinator, the team confirmed. Tucker just finished his fourth season as the Jaguars’ defensive coordinator. He was also the team’s assistant head coach last season and interviewed for Jacksonville’s head-coaching job, which went to Gus Bradley. Prior to joining the Jaguars, Tucker spent four seasons with the Browns — three as defensive backs coach and one as defensive coordinator. Source: Pro Football Weekly
Their defense will stay the same, it'll probably be similar to what he ran in Jacksonville, just better
Local radio was talking about possibly transitioning to a 3-4 eventually. I don't know if that a Trestman thing or just speculation.
No reason to change the strength of their team, not necessary at all. Only possibility I see would be using a few hybrid packages, which I think just about everybody will be doing before too long.
eh, we'll see how this goes but i can't say i've been impressed with what tucker has done as a d.c. in this league. we may be looking at a complete flip-flop in chicago where the defense goes in the crapter within a couple of years and the offense becomes strong (i.e. ravens, patriots, etc.)
