The Eagles hired former Browns coach Pat Shurmur, an NFL source said on Sunday. Shurmur is expected to be named offensive coordinator, but an exact title had yet to be decided upon. New Eagles coach Chip Kelly will likely handle the play-calling this coming season, but he said last week that he was looking for a coordinator to help with the passing game. Shurmur is a peculiar hire because his offensive philosophy is based on the West Coast offense which seems to be much different from the irreverent Kelly. Kelly’s spread offense at Oregon would break many “unwritten†rules about how to run an offense in the NFL. Source: Philly.com
To be honest, right now, no one can answer that question because no one knows what Chip Kelly's NFL offense is going to be. He's already said it's not going to be the same offense he ran at Oregon but I'd imagine it'd be somewhat similar. Shurmur knows the NFL better than Kelly and I'd guess that's how he fits in. Maybe to play devils advocate and such? He was the QB coach here for a while and didn't do that bad of a job.
Maybe they do, but Shurmur to me showed nothing to designate him as a solid offensive mind. From the first day to his last, they sucked crap on that side and he did little to improve it IMO. He doesn't gameplan well or make good decisions, and his handling of the McCoy concussion situation was god awful.
Well i certainly dont hold him high regard bur i think OC title under kelly will mean little more then glorified qbs coach/gopher.
