Frank Gore ran for a pair of second-half touchdowns and the 49ers rebounded from a 17-0 deficit to beat the Atlanta Falcons 28-24 in the NFC championship game Sunday, sending San Francisco to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1995.

The top-seeded Falcons (14-4) tried to pull out another season-saving drive at the end, but Matt Ryan's fourth-down pass for Roddy White with 1:13 remaining was knocked down by San Francisco linebacker NaVorro Bowman.

The 49ers (13-4-1) will meet the winner of the AFC title game between New England and Baltimore. San Francisco will be trying to join Pittsburgh as the only teams with six Super Bowl championships.

The victory was sweet redemption for the 49ers, who lost an overtime thriller to the New York Giants a year ago in the NFC title game.

    2. Seeing Atlanta lose especially in a championship game.

I was sweating it out for a while. Seemed to me the defense was not playing their game. But they won and that is all that counts.

well, this was a very entertaining game. white was being mugged on the 4th down play and it should have been a penalty. this game could have gone either way.

That's all legal within 5 yards. Just ask Seattle. Their CB's mug people within those five yards.

well, regardless of what seattle or any other team gets away with, holding is never legal and it was a hold. bowman had white's right arm in a lock.

i appreciate the refs trying to not affect the end of a game. in this case, it may have been a little too blatant to swallow the whistle though.

I have to admit the unsportmanlike hit to the head was ticky tack and the Bowman knock down was close as well. I thought he was within 5 yards, but there still looked like contact. But they got the Douglas call, so it was a wash.

The roughing the passer penalty was the correct call. I remember last year Justin Smith unintentionally brushed Bradford's helmet with his palm and they called the same thing.

On the Bowman call, there was some contact, however, it was within 5 yards and Bowman was in that space first and he has every right to that space as the wide out.

And yes during the game and after a few drinks, I thought FOR SURE that hit the ground. Being sober and watching the game replay, I can kind of see where the officials were coming from but I still think it was a drop.

Well the "drop" was a tough call, but from what I could see, even though he had a hand under the ball, more than half the ball had come loose and was dragging on the ground. Then when he turned his body his hand came off the ball and slid his over hand over top of it. I will say, if nothing else, that guy's ability to understand in a small window of time exactly what was going on with his hands and body to make those adjustments was pretty damn incredible. I hadn't followed the Falcons this year, but those receivers are impressive. Julio Jones is a bigger guy than I thought he was.

the lightly brushing of a qb's helmet should not be a 15 yard penalty. And it was a dropped pbutt. The ball moved from his midsection to his meat pistol area and that should have been a dropped pbutt. It was a good game but I think the Super Bowl will be a motherhecker. Two good defenses slugging it out. It will come down to who has the ball last I believe. This will be a good game.
