Detroit Lions receiver Titus Young Sr. appears to be doing everything he can to lose his NFL job, Anwar Richardson of Mlive.com reports. Young first showed his immaturity by sucker-punching teammate Louis Delmas last offseason, he was later sent home by Detroit for intentionally lining up incorrectly against the Green Bay Packers, Young was sent home for the third time in six months by coaches after his attitude did not improve, and later placed on injured reserve. Now Young is voicing his displease on Twitter. The embattled receiver is threatening to not to play football again unless he gets the ball thrown his way, sentiments he expressed via Twitter this afternoon: "Like I said I never been selfish but if I'm not going to get the football i don't want to play anymore" Young followed that Tweet with this self-assessment on his verified account: "Never have I ran the wrong route, just put my self where the ball was going" Lions coach Jim Schwartz and Martin Mayhew have been lukewarm about Young's possible return to Detroit, Young threatening to quit probably will not help their opinions of him. He's been done in Detroit since mid-season last year. He will either be playing for somebody else or out of the league.
supposedly, the lions have not released him just because they want to piss him off. he is still under contract with the lions for another 2 years at about $700k per year so it wouldn't cost them a whole lot of money if they wanted to continue to just piss him off. he would take a roster spot though and giving up a roster spot just to piss a guy off seems stupid.
well, in a way, i sort of see what he's saying. if someone is a competitor and they feel they are a good player, they want to be on the field. having said that, titus doesn't really have anyone's respect and no one believes he actually wants to help his team win, so it really doesn't matter how good he is ......... he's not going to see the field. if i were him and the lions wanted to keep me on the roster just out of spite, i would collect my $700k for the next 2 years and just keep my mouth shut and stay in shape so when i became a free agent, i could try and catch on somewhere and re-build my career. of course, i probably have more common sense than Titus.
