Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday that the club would soon announce their next special teams coordinator and that the decision had been made. Jones indicated that only a few, final contract details needed to be worked out before the club officially announced the hire. Two of the Cowboys’ top targets to replace Joe DeCamillis, who left for Chicago, are former Buffalo special teams coordinator Bruce DeHaven and former Tennessee special teams coordinator Alan Lowry. DeHaven and Lowry both interviewed for the job and both said Tuesday evening that neither has heard back from the Cowboys. DeHaven coached the Cowboys’ special teams from 2003 to 2006. Lowry worked in the Cowboys’ scouting department in 1976 before becoming Texas’ defensive backs coach (1977-81). Lowry then spent the next nine seasons (1982-90) with the Cowboys, filling roles as a special teams coach (1982-85 and 1989), receivers coach (1986-88) and tight ends coach (1990).
