Rob Ryan no longer is defensive coordinator for the St. Louis Rams, according to a tweet from the team's official account Tuesday. After extensive conversations regarding defensive philosophy, the Rams and Rob Ryan agreed he was not the right fit for the DC position. Ryan was hired by the team four days ago. The outspoken brother of Jets coach Rex Ryan was fired by the Dallas Cowboys on Jan. 8. "I inherited a team that was 31st in the league in defense and made them better," Ryan told ESPNDallas.com. "I (expletive) made them a hell of a lot better. I'll be out of work for like five minutes." As it turned out, he was closer to being back in work for like five minutes. Source: Sporting News
You would think those kind of conversations would happen before hiring someone. Hell of a run at DCs for the Rams recently.
agreed. and i mentioned when ryan going to the rams first came up that i didn't think they were a philosophical match.
i win the internet every day. i'm just that good. seriously, though, like you said, how do you hire someone before discussing philosophies. seems unreal.
Reminds me of 1999 when the Bears announced the hiring of Dave McGinnis as HC before they talked contract terms. When McGinnis backed out, I thought it was the dumbest move I'd ever heard. I stand corrected...
