Al Kelly, the CEO of the New York/New Jersey Super Bowl host committee, said Thursday that he wants the visitors to have such an enjoyable experience that the first cold-weather Super Bowl won’t be the last one, Steve Politi of the Newark Star-Ledger reports. "It’s the biggest sporting event in North America," Kelly told The Star-Ledger. "It’s only right that it gets on the biggest stage in the world, and hopefully it makes sense that should happen once a decade. Right? "I don’t have any vision that we’re going to get three out of the next 12 Super Bowls or something. But maybe, because of all the other things you can do in the region, which is an endless list of options, we can have it again." Kelly then went into full salesman mode, rattling off all the entertainment options in New York and New Jersey, from the shopping to the restaurants to the theater district, he is here with 16 of the 29 full-time employees of the host committee, visiting venues and attending events to prepare for the Feb. 2, 2014 game. His comments about hosting the game a second time are a departure from the original pitch in 2010, the bid was widely viewed as a "one-time thing" because the league didn’t want to open the door for other cold-weather cities with open-air stadiums, like Washington and New England, to make a bid. Steelers co-owner Art Rooney II was blunt at the time: "As far as I’m concerned, it’s a one-time exemption." The NFL had required an average temperature of 50 degrees or a dome for a city to even bid on hosting the Super Bowl, a rule that it bent for the NY/NJ pitch. It seems a long shot, to say the least, that the league would consider any return trip to East Rutherford — especially if a much-feared winter storm hits the region that week and dampens the experience for tourists. Just for the fact they subjected the free world to that Jersey Shore crap should exempt them from even talking about it...
Next year when the game is played in snow/sleet ,freezing rain and temps in the 20's and the winning team wins 6-3,what will these owners do then?
don't think the corporate big wigs would be willing to pay out the big bucks to freeze his butt off. But they should have a right to host it. wonder what the attendance was for the Ice Bowl. 50,000 sell out http://weatherstories.ssec.wisc.edu/stories/icebowl.html
The Freezer Bowl between the bengals and chargers in january was not much better than the ice bowl. http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freezer_Bowl
