The Baltimore Ravens held off a furious second-half charge by the San Francisco 49ers en route to a 34-31 triumph in Super Bowl XLVII. It marked the Ravens' first title since the 2000 season, when they defeated the New York Giants, 34-7. The game wasn't decided until 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick sailed a pass incomplete toward Michael Crabtree on fourth-and-goal deep in Ravens' territory. Jim Harbaugh was animated in his disgust with the call, pleading for a pass interference penalty. Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco paved the way for the Ravens, completing 22 of 32 passes for 287 yards with three touchdowns while kick returner Jacoby Jones tied an NFL record with a 108-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to start the second half. The play appeared to give Baltimore all the momentum, until a 34-minute power outage appeared to ignite the 49ers as they slowly chipped away at the lead and made it quite a game. the power going out gave the niners a chance or else this would have been one of the worst superbowls in the last few years agreed
Define "of recent memory." Super Bowl 41 sucked, and there was the "Seattle Blames the Refs" Bowl which was a crap salad on its own... this had the potential to be a lot worse, and who knows if SF ever gets back into the game without the power outage, but it happened and they came back and the second half was a HELL of a lot more watchable.
SF's special teams cost them this game. Kickoff return for a touchdown is something I expect against the Chiefs, not a SB caliber team.
Disappointed the NFC West didn't win it, but more disappointed in the game itself. Just glad Ray Lewis got to be the center of attention...meh.
 i guess i don't understand the comments that this was a bad super bowl .......... the first half had plenty of action...... scoring, turnovers, fake fg, some good hits the hour-long halftime/power outage with just a couple of minutes of football in between obviously sucked ballz. but after that, the game was a lot of fun. when san fran started their comeback and cut the deficit to 28-13, i mentioned to the guys i was watching the game with that it felt like the niners offense was starting to click and there was plenty of time left. they felt like the game was over, the ravens were playing too well, and it was just going to be a blowout. but, then the niners put another 10 points up very quickly and all of the sudden we had a game. and the fourth quarter was nip and tuck the whole way. the niners had several opportunities to take the lead and the ravens just kept holding them off just enough.
This was an exciting game. Especially during the second half. How people can view it as horrible I don't understand. Ravens held tough and won it. Congrats again to Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Ravens.
