CBS' Super Bowl coverage Sunday drew a 48.1 overnight rating – the highest Super Bowl overnight in history, Michael Hiestand of USA Today reports. That 48.1, translating to 48.1% of households in the 56 urban markets measured for overnights, tops the previous record of 47.9 for Green Bay-Pittsburgh in 2011 on Fox. And that rating is up 1% for last year's overnight for the N.Y. Giants-New England on NBC, which turned out to be the most-watched TV show in U.S. history when total U.S. viewership was compiled in the national TV rating. But CBS' rating comes with an odd asterisk: It doesn't include viewership from 8:45-9:15 p.m. ET, when the game was delayed because of a power outage. Predictably, the game's rating peaked at its conclusion as it drew a 52.9 from 10:30-10:45 ET. Source: The Redzone
God was watching. He counts as a lot of viewers... Anyone also think that since God was watching that maybe that "power outage" was just a bathroom break for the big guy?
whoa, whoa, whoa ............. i thought the ratings were going to be down because there wasn't a 'glamour' team or a team from new york or new england in this game .......... how could this have happened? seriously, having 2 'new' teams in the SB with new players/new stars was the best thing the league could have hoped for. this will obviously offend the fans of these teams, but teams like the pats, steelers, saints, packers, giants, and peyton manning just need to go away at this point so the league can move forward. their players/storylines are as tired as ray lewis chasing vernon davis around a secondary.
I'm surprised the ratings were this high. Not many people in public that I saw really talked about the game much last week.
It was the third most watched SB of all time, behind last year's NE-NYG game, and the Packers-Steelers game the year before. How can they get an accurate count of viewers when I bet the count doesn't include sports bars, dorm rooms, SB watching parties, etc.?
