The Detroit Lions have begun the process of dumping salary. And Kyle Vanden Bosch will be among the next to go, Mike Garafolo of USA Today reports. The 34-year-old defensive end has been informed he'll be released, according to a person informed of the impending roster move. The person, who spoke to USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity because the move was not official, the person was unsure when the move will be completed. He has three seasons remaining on his current contract but only because he restructured last season, his base salary for 2013 is slated to be $5 million and he has two more years at $8 million in base salary. Vanden Bosch had 16 sacks in the past three seasons with the Lions after following head coach Jim Schwartz from the Tennessee Titans. Source: The Redzone
$5 mill ? doesn't seem like that much but i know the lions have some serious cap problems ................. of course, that's what you get when you pay a receiver almost $20 mill a year .............. and don't get me wrong ........... i think megatron is the best receiver in the game but no receiver is worth $20 mill a year. that's just dumb.
Good as he is I'd have to agree. If you were sub .500 with the team as it is now, how are you going to get over the hump if his salary makes you part with your few key pieces (or not allow you to sign others). Hard to justify.
