Yes, it is time for major change with the Bears, out with the old, back up the trucks, fill them up and move them out, and then lay the new infill playing surface at Soldier Field. Infill, which is commonly known by brand names like FieldTurf and AstroPlay, is a cheaper, cleaner option than grass and this week, the Chicago Park District completely re-sodded Soldier Field at a cost of approximately $250,000, it was the second time in 11 weeks the field was re-sodded and for another $700,000 to $1 million on top of the $500,000, it could have replaced the grass permanently with an infill surface. And then an expensive re-sodding never would be an issue again and both sides -- the Bears and the park district -- appear willing to consider change. Source: Chicago Tribune
I would not be shocked if Artificial Turf was put into Soldier Field. Re-sodding the field a few times every year gets old.
