The Ravens are planning to build a statue for linebacker Ray Lewis around M&T Bank Stadium in the near future, owner Steve Bisciotti said Thursday.

“I think he set himself apart in Baltimore sports history,â€￾ said Bisciotti, who added he wouldn't be surprised if the statue was in place “in the next year or two.â€￾

Lewis, a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and 12-time Pro Bowl linebacker, played the final game of his 17-year career in Sunday's 34-31 Super Bowl victory over the 49ers.

Bisciotti said he doesn't know where the statue would be built. A statue of Colts quarterback Johnny Unitas already stands outside the stadium.

Also, Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Lewis indicated he won't be part of the staff next season.

I wonder if he will have angel wings? Maybe they will wait until he passes away.

Poor Jonathon Ogden. First Raven ever drafted, arguably the best left tackle of his time, played his whole career in Baltimore, 9 time All-Pro, Pro-Bowler every year he played but his first, the first Raven in the HOF, and on his first ballot to boot...but Ray gets the statue.

Not that he's undeserving, however...regardless of how you feel about his theatrics and persona, Ray Lewis might have been the best MLB ever to play the game in his prime, and he's inarguably one of the best defensive players at any position, ever. Dude was an absolute monster in the late 90's-mid 2000's.

Ogden should still get the statue, though.
