The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Saturday that Danny Amendola and the team are "far apart" on a new deal. The newspaper also stated that free-agent wideout Brandon Gibson unlikely will be brought back because of cap limitations, meaning St. Louis could conceivably be left with just three receivers on the roster -- Austin Pettis, Chris Givens and Brian Quick -- who played a snap for the Rams in 2012. "Not a concern whatsoever," Fisher said. "There's options out there. The free-agent market, there's options out there, and it's a great draft for a receiver this year." Fisher acknowledged Amendola was a priority, saying, "Oh yes, we've got a number of unrestricted free agents on our roster that we want back, and Danny would be one of them. 'Jack' (Steven Jackson) would be another. We've got plenty of time. The process is ongoing. We're communicating with their agents and so on and so forth." The newspaper reported it's "universally expected at Rams Park" that Jackson will void his $7 million player option and test free agency. As for Amendola, he's likely to draw interest on the open market, but the issue boils down to what the 27-year-old wideout is asking for -- and what the team is ultimately willing to fork over. can someone please explain to me the fascination with this guy. to me, he seems like nothing more than a possession receiver and an average returner that has trouble staying healthy. he's not explosive. he's not a game changer. and they can't depend on him to be healthy. these guys grow on trees, don't they?
I agreed with you fully until the last sentence, the guy has balls of steels and will make plays in situations where most receivers wouldn't even dream of putting themselves in. That's the special trait that he possesses that has brought his name up into public consciousness (a good percentage of NFL fans probably couldn't name more than five players on the Rams roster). Everyone is pointing at him as being a Patriots target, but that's nothing but laziness because every short white receiver is now a Wes Welker clone apparently. Not only that, but I can't see the Pats break the bank on a guy who isn't a game breaker and will most likely miss significant action with injury.
didn't every receiver in the league torch the niners this season, though? :icon_cheesygrin: i still say amendola is not worth huge money. if he gets paid like a #2 or #3 receiver, then that's probably fine.
Night and Day difference between the regular season and playoffs for the pass D. I think its more complicated than pinning it on one particular player. Might be more of an issue with the concept of not really resting the DL. It'll be interesting to see how they manage that next year.
