Marquise Goodwin, Tavon Austin Stun In 40-Yard Dash At NFL Combine

West Virginia wideout Tavon Austin and Texas wide receiver Marquise Goodwin put on a show Sunday morning in the 40-yard dash, coming within striking distance of breaking Johnson's record time from 2008.

Goodwin posted an official time of 4.27 seconds and Austin clocked in officially at 4.34, a hair short of the 4.24 Johnson posted before being drafted by the Tennessee Titans. Texas A&M's Ryan Swope matched Austin's time with a 4.34.

The 5-foot-9, 174-pound Austin was a sensation on WVU's pass-based spread offense last season, and also labeled himself "the all-around best player in the draft," but he clearly has competition for the fastest. Goodwin, a two-time Texas Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year, showed the type of speed Sunday that could entice NFL teams to take a chance on him at the 2013 NFL Draft.

but can they play? Sick of these track guys getting drafted and then stink up the place.

 

I can remember a player a few years ago who ran a 4.7 40, which is awful. His name was Emmitt Smith. He turned out pretty good. You just never know.

not sure i was stunned, goodwin is the only player that had a legit shot of 4.2s but we knew austin was fast too. I like austin a lot, he more stunned on the bench. 5-8 174 throws up 16 ( i think he was credited with 14 though) and then his short shuttle was ridiculously fast. the Guy showed speed but also showed power and the ability to change direction quickly, run routes, and be very elusive

Swope ran a great time...that and the alabama game alone will probably make him a solid 2nd rounder
