Unlike Raiders, Chargers Will Not Tarp Seats

The Raiders, struggling to fill seats, are reducing their seating capacity to 53,200, the smallest in the NFL, Tom Krasovic of UT San Diego reports.

It's a classic example of the less-is-more approach, fewer seats available equals more sellouts, that means fewer TV blackouts and fans will be closer together, too, and the Raiders say that’s a good thing.

Speaking of California franchises struggling to reach the playoffs and sell out an old, multipurpose stadium, the Chargers have the option of tarping over seats, too.

Forget about it, says club spokesman Bill Johnston.

“We just lowered the price of 10,000 season seats in an effort to help fill the stadium and enhance our homefield advantage,â€￾ Johnston told me via email. “Combine the lower price with one of the most attractive and competitive home schedules in memory and we’re optimistic about our chances.â€￾
