The question of whether NFL players would accept an openly gay teammate was raised again this week with a report that team executives want to know whether former Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o is gay. Mike Florio of NBC Sports and ProFootballTalk.com said on "The Dan Patrick Show" that teams are wondering about Te'o's sexual orientation in the wake of the fake girlfriend hoax, because the issue has the potential to divide the clubhouse. "Teams want to know if Manti Te'o is gay," Florio said. "They just want to know. They want to know because in an NFL locker room, it's a different world. ... It's been described to me as the proverbial elephant in the room and I don't think anyone knows how to solve this dilemma yet." Former Chicago Bears quarterback Jim Miller cited religion Tuesday in arguing that an openly gay player would not be welcomed in NFL locker rooms. “There are some religions that are just not going to accept a gay individual in the locker room,†Miller told "The McNeil and Spiegel Show" on WSCR-AM 670. “So now, are you as an organization going to bring that element into your locker room and think everything is going to be OK? "Last time I checked, whether it’s Christianity or Muslims or other religions that are out there, they’re just not going to accept it. They're just not. It's just not realistic for Mike Florio or any progressive or liberal to think that everything is going to be OK in the locker room and we should all just wise up and accept it.†Asked his stance on whether gays should be accepted, Miller said, “I could care less. You can play football or you can’t. I’m just giving you my point of view that certain factions of a locker room will not accept it. ... That's the reality of the situation.†Source: Chicago Tribune
Yeah well certain factions of a locker room were dead set against blacks as well. Someones going to have to step up, take a stand, and fight the bigots if change is going to be made.
now i know why the old guard didn't want the blacks in the locker room. they pushed all the white guys out. LOL But seriously though. While I know of a couple of gays who go for straight guys, my friends said that the majority of the homosexuals don't go for the straight ones because what is the use? The truly straight ones shoot them down.
I got lesbo roommate so I know lots of gays. Trust me, they have no desire for dirty butt straight boys. They don't have the same standards as women. But then again, us straight men are spoiled by the fact women have lower standards then us Sent from my HTC Vivid
Just because the guy makes up a " fake girlfriend" makes teams wonder if he is gay. I know guys that have lied and said they had s*x with certain woman .....lol,lol.. does that make them gay to...lol,lol.. he better focus on getting a better 40 time.
He didn't make her up...lol, lol... He was tricked by some dude with a crush on him. I don't see how it would be legal to ask this though.
The media circus that would follow would be insane. I could see why a team would want to know/prepare in advance for the media mess...
yep, it seems the sports leagues can operate outside of the regular world in regards to the questions they can ask. Who was the player who was asked whether his mom was a prostitute?
that sounds like it may be right. and it sounds like te'o isn't the only one they're asking ........... and maybe that's how they get away with it. Colorado tight end Nick Kasa said he got this line of questioning: “They ask you like, ‘Do you have a girlfriend?' Are you married?' Do you like girls?'†Kasa told ESPN Radio Denver's CJ & Kreckman on Tuesday. “Those kinds of things, and you know it was just kind of weird. But they would ask you with a straight face, and it's a pretty weird experience altogether.â€
Years ago while I was in college, a good friend of mine was going to school to be an athletic trainer. So after we graduated he applied everywhere, high schools, colleges, even a couple NFL teams. By then he was married and he told me once that a major college asked him during the interview process if he like guys or girls. At the time he was taken aback by the question that all he did was show the interviewer his wedding ring and it wasn't brought up again lol. I'm surprised that the gay and lesbian groups aren't out in force protesting the combine.
This morning, on the Mike & Mike Show on ESPN Radio, John Clayton said that NFL teams that ask a player if he likes girls or guys better be careful. Because if the league finds out, that team could be fined or lose draft picks.
