The Cardinals also announced the release of cornerback William Gay, a 15-game starter in his first year since coming over from the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was due $3.225 million after triggering an escalator in his contract.

Gay's release could mean the team is counting on re-signing free agent Greg Toler, who came on strong at the end of the season.

Gay tweeted about being released on Friday morning.

Gay should only be a nickle db, nothing else. He's good at it though.

    Would you take him back?

Only if Keenan Lewis didn't come back. I'd be ok with Taylor and Allen on the outside and Gay as the 3rd db.

I think Lewis has to be Top-Priority. I wouldn't mind having Gay there with Allen...behind Taylor and Lewis.

That won't happen unless Gay realizes his actual worth, and stops thinking he's anything better than a 3rd db in this league.

It's not my money, I don't mind Gay for depth.

I wouldn't mind it at all as long as they sign Lewis and aren't signing Gay as insurance when they "don't" sign Lewis.
