The Chargers have expressed interest in re-signing veteran nose tackle Aubrayo Franklin, a league source said Monday. Where contract negotiations stand is not known, but Franklin will become an unrestricted free agent if no deal is signed before Tuesday at 1 p.m. PT.

Franklin, 32, spent 2011 in the Saints' 4-3 scheme.

The style didn't play to the run stopper's strengths, and he looked more comfortable absorbing double teams under Chargers defensive coordinator John Pagano's 3-4 system.

Franklin started nine of 12 games, finishing with 20 tackles.

Would love to bring him back here to SF. The price would probably be pretty low for a very good run defender and we are getting really thin at dline since its looking like both sopoaga and rjf could be gone in a few hours.
