The New Orleans Saints placed a premium on running back Chris Ivory as they issued the restricted free agent a second-round tender, according to a source. The second-round tender consists of a one-year, $2.023 million offer. This means if a team would want Ivory to sign a contract and the Saints wouldn't match the offer, the Saints would receive a second-round pick from that team. The price tag is likely too high for any team to try to pluck Ivory away. Ivory tallied 217 rushing yards last season and two touchdowns while only receiving 40 carries in a crowded backfield also containing Mark Ingram, Darren Sproles and Pierre Thomas. I know it is all about the team but the Saints are freaking up this guy's chance to play somewhere else. 4 capable running backs is too many. And he is the odd man out for some somewhat valid reasons. Pass protection and developing bad ball control habits. As strictly a hard runner, when you need that yard and the defense is going all out to stop it I would go with Ivory. More times than not he will get the first down.
No. Do not take Honey Badger with anything. Eff that guy and his inability to stay out of trouble. And they should have traded Chris last year if they aren't going to go with him and Mark. Or trade Pierre now. We can get SOMETHING for them.
I concur. Trading one of our backs makes sense but what can you get for them? No higher than a 5th at best. Backs are not valued anymore in this league.
Tell that to the teams that have nothing at running back. I believe you need a balanced attack to win the super bowl. IE the Saints in 2009. The Ravens this year. You could argue against a running game for the Packers. Steelers had a running game. I know its a pass-happy league, but even the younger QBs are running. Wilson. RG3. Cam Newton. There are teams without a decent RB that could use one. ANd a 5th round pick is better than nothing. especially when we don't have a second and guys that come later in rounds at times. BRady. Colston. Brees. Hell, Pierre was undrafted. Ivory undrafted.
what I mean is that used to a running back could command a first round pick to be traded. Now it is a 2 at best. Mostly a 3 and below. Maybe keep all three and see if Ingram finally decided to be motivated and play better. He came on some when Ivory began running. Kinda worried about some player who has to be motivated to play only after a season. Lets hope he does. If so then trade PT. I would keep Ivory for those short slammers.
