Ed Reed arrived at the Houston airport late Thursday to sign a three-year contract with the Texans on Friday morning, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported. NFL.com's Albert Breer cited a source in reporting that the deal has a maximum value of $15 million, and will pay Reed $6 million the first year. Reed told Breer on Wednesday that he was leaving the world-champion Balitmore Ravens, with whom he's played for his entire 11-year NFL career, to sign with the Texans. Houston Texans owner Bob McNair told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport on Wednesday that Reed will help fill a need for the last season's AFC South champs. "We play all of the top quarterbacks in the league, and we needed a free safety back there that had some outstanding ball skills," McNair said. The likely future Hall of Famer became a priority for the Texans after the Detroit Lions signed former Houston safety Glover Quin. Source: NFL.com
