Ravens free agent tackle Bryant McKinnie said the New Orleans Saints have been one of the teams to show interest in him in a Thursday radio interview on WNST in Baltimore. A source said there were "general" talks with the Saints, but nothing more than that at this point. The Saints are certainly in the market for a left tackle with Jermon Bushrod heading off to the Bears via free agency. Saints Coach Sean Payton made it clear during the NFL owners meetings that the left tackle spot is wide open and the Saints want to add someone to compete for the job with Charles Brown. McKinnie, who turns 34 in September, has said in previous interviews how the Ravens are trying to keep him as the team is coming off its Super Bowl XLVII win in New Orleans. is he still any good? might be good for a year or two stop gap. but I want them to give Brown a chance.
He's out of shape and the wrong side of 30. Was he servicable last year? Yes, but how much does he have left? I wouldn't bank on him for more than being a one-year stopgap at this point.
Honestly, I think they should revamp that whole offensive line. As great as our offense has been these past few years, I have been very critical of the offensive line play. I just wish we could get to the point where running the ball on third-and-short situations would actually have a chance to succeed.
our inside guys are decent. maybe it is only me but I was not very impressed with Ben Grubbs this past season. seemed he was always getting pushed back into the running lanes. I have a feeling that we will be picking a left tackle with the fifteenth pick.
for a team that is supposedly cap-strapped, the saints are certainly rumored to be looking at a lot of veteran free agents.
we are 2 million under the cap. after restructuring a lot of contracts they got it down. I look for a couple more moves to free up cap space.
Then we will have to move up in the draft and get one. We might as well do it this draft. 15th is a good place to move up from. You shouldn't have to give up that much and I hope we are not picking this early again for a long time. If you are going to draft a tackle then get a good one and those are usually top 10 picks.
