With prospect visits in full swing, former LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu is scheduled to meet with a pair of NFL heavyweights. Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reported Friday that Mathieu will visit with the New England Patriots on April 5. Four days later, "The Honey Badger" will meet with the San Francisco 49ers, a NFL source told Matt Barrows of The Sacramento Bee. The 49ers need help at cornerback, but their free agency search at the position has hovered primarily around bigger players. The 5-foot-9, 186-pound Mathieu -- booted off LSU last season for violating team rules -- widely is viewed as a slot corner, but NFL.com's Bucky Brooks sees the "capacity to play cornerback, nickelback and safety in a diverse scheme." I think he is a 4th round. Good subpackage guy who will be able to make plays with out getting exposed I think he gets abused as anything more then a #3 in the NFL Sent from my HTC Vivid
i mean finnegan and grimes do ok with similar size his best attribute is hes not afraid of anyone, he thinks he better than every player he lines up against. He can play NB, FS, and maybe outside
It's not a size issue, its a skill issue, I think he'll be a liability on deep balls especially against bigger WR. To be he screams Slot CB, which is actually very valuable and hard to cover. And I think he would be very well there Sent from my HTC Vivid
What he brings in special teams and he can be a #3 or $4 CB right off the boot? His value is great. Only issue is between his ears.
Whichever team picks him up better make sure their leaders keep him in line. I don't care how much he says he's cleaned up his act. If I am a GM I need to know the investment the team is making in him will pay off, and soon.
