The NFL is “increasingly likely†to move toward a “draft†format to spice up the 2014 Pro Bowl, CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reported on Thursday. La Canfora reported that the NFL and NFL Players Association are both receptive to the format, in which a draft for both Pro Bowl teams would likely take place on primetime television. From La Canfora’s report: "The NFLPA proposal, in which team captains and/or other parties pick players for two Pro Bowl teams once fan voting/team selection is complete, was presented to the owners two weeks ago at the league meeting and continues to generate positive momentum, sources said. There are no dissenting voices and league officials met this week to add to the skeleton they have in place for the format change, though more work must be done." In late March, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell officially confirmed that the Pro Bowl would last at least another year. In announcing its continuation, Goodell said the league would continue to work to make the game more attractive to fans. “The answer going forward will be again if some of these changes are effective and positive and lead to a better event, we’ll continue to find ways to make this game better and more popular with our fans,†Goodell said. “Ultimately, that’s what we’re looking for.†Source: Sports Illustrated
I think the players should get paid according to how they play. Instead of just a bonus if they win or lose. Vote in a committee and have them "grade" each performance. Make it a little more enticing for the players. Maybe even have more incentives for the team they play for... i.e. higher cap # or maybe even compensatory draft picks. IMO they just need to make it so the players take the game a little more serious.
Agreed. The Pro Bowl has been a joke for a long time which is a shame considering every other game featuring NFL players means something. I think you're on the right track AZ, the players have to have something invested into the game in order to play their hardest. Playing harder for a higher payday would work would it not?
Agreed dude. I don't know if my way was the best, but I do believe there has to be something on the line to make the players "want" to play hard.
I can't remember exactly, but I don't think it was part of the CBA and I don't recall that they actually did it...I remember there was talk about significantly increasing it.
