New Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians loves the long ball, the vertical passing game. That's why Kevin Kolb was cut, and that's why Carson Palmer is now in place as the team's new starting quarterback.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that the trade sending Palmer from the Oakland Raiders to Arizona is now official. NFL.com's Albert Breer reported Palmer will make up to $20 million over the next two seasons, with $10 million guaranteed. That's a pay cut from his Oakland contract, but not a huge one.

The Cardinals officially announced the move later. The Cardinals only have to give up the second of their two sixth-round picks and a conditional pick in 2014 for Palmer and the Raiders' seventh-round pick this year.

In Oakland, what WRs did Carson Palmer really have to throw the ball to?

Any current Raiders WR < Larry Fitzgerald

Upgrade is a subjective term, especially in Arizona, but here it actually fits

True. Palmer has been "good" for what? Two seasons? Other than that he's been average at best, but "average at best" is indeed an upgrade at this point in Arizona.

The same people blocking for him, blocked for all the other QBs in AZ. He's going to get destroyed in the NFC West

yep, i still don't see this being a huge success but palmer can't be any worse than the guys they've been running out there.

i find it funny, though, that in all of this a qb that is only worth a late round pick is still worth $10 mill/yr. amazing.

LMAO ya that did not work out for you guys. Dont worry though the current regime seems to have their heads out of their asses. Its just going to be painful as they clear all the Al Davis dead money off the books.

Palmer actually had some pretty good stats last year. 4000 yards, 28 tds 19 picks? Although I dont know how well he actually played I dont watch Raider games and even if I did most of them are blacked out.
