Dodgers Starter Zach Greinke Breaks Left Collerbone In Brawl With Padres

Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke broke his left collarbone in a bench-clearing brawl with the San Diego Padres during Los Angeles' 3-2 victory Thursday night.

Juan Uribe's pinch-hit home run in the eighth put the Dodgers ahead, two innings after Greinke hit Carlos Quentin on the left shoulder with a pitch.
The slugger started walking toward the mound and Greinke appeared to say something. Quentin then charged the 2009 AL Cy Young Award winner. They dropped their shoulders and collided, and Quentin tackled the pitcher to the grbutt.

mattingly says he thinks quentin should be suspended for the same amount of time that greinke is on IR ............. can't say i disagree. quentin charged and injured him so it seems fair.

 

Greinke should have lowered his head, not his shoulder. If he had done that, he wouldn't have gotten hurt, IMO.

 

Grienke should have realized he was outweighed by 50 pounds of muscle and side stepped or tried to sweep the legs. He's stupid for trying to go straight at him.

 

Well he wouldnt have charged him if Greinke didn't plunk him and then talk crap.

yes, greinke was stupid for trying to take him on. but i do not believe it was a plunk. that situation made no sense for a plunk. quentin was in the wrong completely for charging the mound on this one. quentin is a known dumbass too. that's why he's bounced around a lot already in his young career.

I don't think he threw at him. I think it got away from him. That isn't a situation where you try to hit the batter. Quentin acted like a snitch when he got hit, and greinke didn't help by trash talking. But I really don't think he hit him on purpose.

 

Greinke talked crap. I don't feel too bad for him.

 

Kemp got dinked the inning before, and what better time to retaliate than when its least expected?

 

You suspend the action not the result. The fragility of Greinke's collarbone isn't his problem.

 

Too much of the "result" is punished in sports...

 

lowering your shoulder when not wearing pads like football players can have some serious effects! in fairness to greinike,i don't think he was throwing at the guy.eventually,the dodgers will hit somebody else as payback on the padres cause they play ten times before the all star break.

If he was throwing at him he did it wrong. Quentin is a snitch and should be fined and suspended. It got away from Grienke.
