Last week, Justin Tuck said he hoped Victor Cruz reported for the start of the offseason program "in good faith."

But when the star receiver — who has not yet signed his first-round restricted free agent tender — did not show up at the Giants facility Monday, Tuck was not surprised or bothered.

"I don’t think anybody hoped that he’s not there. So that’s what I meant by that," Tuck said. "Victor has to do what Victor thinks is best for Victor. And he doesn’t have to answer to anybody else. He’s his own man. At the end of the day, I don’t care if he misses all the workout program. As long as he’s there on— What day do we open up? — that Sunday. Whatever day that is, if I see No. 80 with the New York Giants, then I’m cool with that."

Opposing teams have until Friday to submit competing offer sheets, so Cruz could be waiting until that period is over before reporting or signing his tender. The ultimate goal is a long-term deal with the Giants, but the sides have not been able to reach agreement and appear to be far apart.

The first two weeks of the offseason program are limited to strength and conditioning, so Cruz's absence is not yet a huge concern.

"I know him and Eli have great rapport, and it won’t take those guys long to figure things out," Tuck said. "But obviously you want a guy there. He’s a big reason for any success we’re going to have this year, so you want him to be there. But if not, it gives the younger guys opportunities to get more reps. It could help us either way."

I honestly don't care if he doesn't show up until mandatory workouts begin, because as Tuck stated, he has to do what is best for him and whether I like this or not this is a business, and the Giants will not pay him what he wants, right now at least if he puts together another great year, in an upward climb because his TD's went up last year but I believe his yards and catches went down.
