Jets coach Rex Ryan did not have much to say about his own schedule, but he certainly had an opinion about the Ravens’. The Ravens are opening the season at Denver despite the tradition of the Super Bowl champion usually opening the season at home because the Orioles have a home game on Sept. 5 when the season opens. The NFL and Major League Baseball tried to work out a way for the Ravens to open at home, but failed. Ryan, who was an assistant in Baltimore for 10 years, took offense to that. “I think as a fan of football I see that first game where Baltimore is away against Denver,†Ryan said in a conference call with reporters Thursday. “I certainly understand that is going to be a great game, but for the Ravens not opening at home … I understand the Orioles are playing a game at home. Well, who really cares? You’ve got 81 of those things at home. Maybe you could have done the right thing and given one up and played 82 on the road and only 80 at home. I really don’t think people are going to care about that game. You have a chance to have the defending world champs open up the season at home where they rightfully should. I think that’s unfortunate.†Ryan was then asked if he was suggesting the NFL is more important than MLB. “I could tell you this, you’ve got a 162-game schedule,†Ryan said. “I think you have the world champions can open up at home and that’s where they should open up. I think that’s, regardless of who you are a baseball team, I think it’s just common courtesy. I don’t know what happened or what gets involved in that. I’m certainly not in charge of that but if I would have been the Ravens would have been opening up at home. … I think that’s unfortunate.†Source: New York Daily News
What if the Orioles are 20 games back or 20 games up by then....completely pointless game...or if its rained out? That's 1 game that could be moved to a 1 o'clock game. Instead, the superbowl champion ravens have to start their season on the road. Not fair. This is MLB doing what they can to show they are not taking a back seat to the NFL. That's all. ...and i fade back to black.
Ok what if you move it to 1 and they go 18 innings? You cant do that. Its not the mlb's to schedule around the NFL. I love football, not I don't expect everyone to just bow down to Lord Goodell.
I understand what your saying. It shouldn't be the NFL way or the highway, but my 3 scenarios could happen n are more likely than the 18 inning game. I'm just saying, that 1 game for the orioles might not be that important by then as it would be to the ravens. A compromise should've been made and moving it up to 1 would've been it. ...and i fade back to black.
