With the 31st overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Cowboys select Wisconsin C Travis Fredrick. Having played guard most of 2011 (Except when he filled in for Peter Konz when he was injured), Frederick switched to center in 2012 after Konz graduated and was much more effective there. While he weighed 312 at the Combine, he played in the high 320's/low 330's at Wisconsin and definitely is at his best when at that weight as it gives him the size and playing strength to physically tie up and control DT. He is never going to be able to adjust to block effectively out in space and will have trouble dealing with explosive off the ball gap shooting DT's due to his lack of top athleticism. Overall, Frederick is being downgraded because of a bad 40 time at the Combine, but he is a good center prospect with the talent to be a solid, workmanlike starter in the NFL who is able to physically control man once he locks up on them. We really got screwed by teams not taking QBs. One or two more QBs go ahead of us and we have a guy we want at 18 I'm guess they and most of the NFL have Floyd flagged for something. Biggest mistake was not trading up to get Star or Vaccaro. Would have cost about a 4th Sent from my HTC Vivid
I really want to know why Floyd dropped so far...but it didn't seem like that big a deal to the analysts during the draft...
Sounds as though Frederick will be a good player for you guys. I know he's not the guy the fans wanted, but there's still a lot of great talent available in the next couple rounds
From this pick, it's obvious that the Cowboys front office doesn't listen to either Jason Garrett, or Tom Ciskowski, their scouting guy. I can't imagine the time it took for Cskowski to put together a draft board and the Cowboys ignored it. BTW, the Cowboys had Floyd #7 on their draft board. After he was taken, local radio station 105.3 The Fan interviewed Fredrick and he said that he wasn't a first round pick.
Not happy at all about passing on Floyd. I still have no idea why Floyd dropped At 31, I actually like the pick. While we were coming I was wonder "Who could we possibly take here?". Frederick most places was a mid 2nd, but they way the draft unfolded OL were dropping like flys. My guess is most teams prolly had about 15-18 players rated as first rounders and when they were off the board, chose to fortify the inside.of there OL. OG/OC's typically have a low bust rate What I like about Frederick: He is extremely versatile. Play's OG and OC at a very high level. Is very strong, very smart and an excellent run blocker What I don't like: He isn't very mobile, which is something we want on our OL. So I question the his overall fit on the OL In summation: -Not happy passing on Floyd, or moving up to get Star/Richardson/Vaccaro - The trade itself, I'm not overly pleased with. We lost on value, but I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it. We were sellers, and its a buyer's market. - I do really like Frederick. While I question scheme fit somewhat, they guy is a player.
