With the 18th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the 49ers select LSU FS Eric Reid. A junior who came out early for the 2013 NFL Draft, Reid definitely has first round physical talent, but his on field play is more of a second/third round player. At over 6'1, Reid's quick feet, loose hips and playing speed enable him to be effective covering receivers in man coverage and flashes the ability to reach in front of receiver to break up pbutt. When he is aggressive coming up the field on plays in front of him, stays over his feet, under control and uses proper technique he can be a strong, physical wrap-up tackler. He has experience making big plays on special teams coverage units and should be able to immediately contribute on them while he develops as a safety. Overall, Reid is a gifted safety who has the talent to not only be a versatile play-maker in the NFL, but would warrant a first round pick if he had been consistent at LSU.

He better be, picking this dude in the first round when he quite possibly could have still been available in the 2nd or even 3rd round, I was shocked to say the least...

I really wanted Reid...then Jerry crap on my heart by trading with you guys (and getting crap in return) so you could take him. :(

I like the pick a lot. I don't think they could have gotten him in the third at all. Second maybe, but they probably had info that someone ahead of them was going to grab him

It's all highlights and lowlights, plus a small sample, but based on what I saw, I'm not overly excited about this one. Is it a good pick? I think so. Does he fit a need? Yes, a safety. Is he an improvement over Goldson's poor pass coverage skills? That's what I'm doubting.

Even if he's Goldsons equal in coverage, he's a fraction of the cost and younger, so heck it.

I don't think they would have traded up for him if he was going to be on the board at 31, let alone in the 2nd or (lol) 3rd. This is the third year in a row they've "reached" for someone in the fans eyes and it turns out that player was about to come off the board anyway, so heck the dumb fans.

The Aldon pick got crap all over for being a reach and not being Quinn, but the Texans were going to take him right after, and hey, he's much better than Quinn anyway, whaddya know.

Jenkins last year, same thing, OMGZ HUGE REACH WE COULD HAVE GOT HIM IN THE FOURTH...oh wait, turns out the Rams were about to take him like 3 picks later.
