Six tight ends have been drafted by the Cowboys since Jason Witten was snatched up in the third round in 2003. As Witten has rewritten the Cowboys' and NFL record books, he has seen understudies, such as Anthony Fasano and Martellus Bennett, come and go.

Now Witten is ready to welcome yet another rookie teammate, second-round pick Gavin Escobar, who plays the same position he does.

"It sounds like they were really high on him and think he can be a good player," Witten said Friday at the Mesquite Boys & Girls Club, where a learning center bearing his name was unveiled. "I'll do everything I can to help him with that process to allow us to be more successful and give us a chance to win. Ultimately, that's all I care about -- help. There's no ego there for me. It's all about winning and that's a part of being a leader and a captain, to help other guys play at a high level. There's no hard feelings from that standpoint."

The Cowboys believe that Escobar can broaden the dimensions of the passing game and improve an offense that was 20th in the NFL in red zone touchdown efficiency.

"He can make plays over his head, and we feel like he has the traits to be a wide tight end at some point," head coach Jason Garrett said. "We are excited about the second tight end."

    So, too, is Witten.

"I think that's a big part of where we're seeing our football team go," he said. "I think more than anything else, I look at it and said they're showing that there's a commitment to this package and when you take a guy that high that's something you obviously see happening."

I honestly think Jason Witten is the classiest dude in the NFL, and one of if not the toughest.

It's a shame he has been stuck in mediocrity for his career being best in the league and not going anywhere for it.

We have two of them. Demarcus Ware on the defensive side is the same way. True professionals, all the class and toughness you could ask for. Can't even sniff an NFC championship.

I liked Escobar and thought he could be a Brown with how thin our TE situation is.. He was a reach in the second, I was thinking early third at the absolute highest. But that doesn't matter a bit if he lives up to his potential.

No joke man. I would love to see Witten get at least one ring. But he would have to be traded to be able to achieve that. :p
