Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Bill Callahan confirmed Tuesday he will call the offensive plays in 2013, Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas reports. It's the first time someone other than coach Jason Garrett has called the plays since 2007. "I'm flattered and as I said this a long time ago when we were visiting in January and February, everybody has a stake in this," Callahan said. "It's a compliment to our staff and it tells you the way our guys work on the offensive side of the ball. It's been productive all the way around. I'm really encouraged, I'm honored and just do the best job for our fans and our team."
Having Bill Callahan call your plays is probably one of the few times getting rid of Jason Garrett as play caller isn't a gigantic success.
My biggest issues is why it took so damn long to make this announcement. This has had more flip flopping then a fish on dry land. One week Garrett's not the OC then the next Callahan is calling plays. Then you don't know from week to week if Jerry's making the decision or Garrett. It seems they don't know how to run a team and its showing more and more each season. I really don't expect a lot from this team for the foreseeable future.
It doesn't matter, really. If you remember, last year the Cowboys dug themselves in big holes at the start of games. It wasn't until they entered hurry-up mode, with Romo calling the plays, that they started playing better. I'm just saying...if they want Romo to be like Manning, maybe they should let him call the plays...
1. Agree with Lddbck. What took so long to announce this? 2. Nebraska fans online are saying that Callahan ruined the Nebraska program with his play calling when he was there.
Keep your eye on the Cowboys during this bye week. Mike Fisher of 105.3 The Fan seems to think that Jason Garrett is going to ask Jerry Jones if he can resume the play calling duties for the Cowboys because of what happened in the Sunday night game against the Saints.
Right It's not just the play calling but the offensive system. Soulless Gingers offense blows hard. Bill C or SG can alternate play calling but it'll still blow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The freaking Cowboys ship won't be "righted" until Jerry Jones comes down from the suites and calls the plays himself!!
The coach doesn't have the final say in Dallas. I'm sure Garrett needs Jerry's permission even to take a crap. Sent from my Galaxy SIII using Tapatalk 2
not true. norv turner runs a very similar system last i knew. which, i thought we should have hired him to be our OC. heck a callahan. callahan is a west coast offense guy anyway, which i think was contributing to the shorter passes we were getting earlier in the season. of course, i'd take those over what we're getting lately, but i digress.
Jerry was on The Fan yesterday. When he was asked if there would be a change in play calling duties, he said no. When Jason was asked did he feel that he could ask Jerry to take over the play calling duties from Callahan, he said yes.
did norv leave when jimmy did? he could have took over when johnson and the cowboys would not have missed a beat. Garret is gonna get sick of jj before too long, and he may leave on his own!

Norvs system wouldn't work here that's why JG doesn't work either. It's all about timing and 5--7 step drops but with the crap line this doesn't work because Romo doesn't have time for those long drops. Short throws to the slot and running would work better. This would set up longer passes Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
