The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have traded for Gabe Carimi, according to Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times. Carimi must pass a physical for the trade to be finalized. The Bucs gave up a sixth-round draft pick in 2014, according to Adam Schefter. The Buccaneers are likely interested in Carimi because they lack really any depth at offensive tackle, and they may want to push starting right tackle Demar Dotson. Carimi has been a disappointment in Chicago after being selected in the first round of the 2011 draft. Carimi has struggled with injuries throughout his pro career and has had multiple knee surgeries, which will not make passing his physical routine. Source: SBNation.com
I wouldn't have minded seeing the Bears give Carimi atleast one more year minimum. Last season, Carimi was technically still a rookie coming off a dislocated knee cap from his rookie year that limited him to only two games. Was Carimi's knee even 100% healthy last year? Oh well, I also don't mind collecting those future draft picks as well.
Never liked his footwork. Even slowed by a knee injury, the signs would have been there but all I saw was a potential guard. Tackle? Don't see much in that area at all. Don't like his lack of angles, over reaching, & inability to keep his man in front of him. If he ever ends up as something , it'll be through the project phase & we're waaay past having the time to subject our QB to the lumps of his learning curve.
Thank you Chicago. He's definitely worth a 6th rounder. Really could use the help at the tackle positions. We just need Freeman to grow up and this could be the beginning of something special
