Marc Trestman is the first Chicago Bears coach in more than 40 years to have a primary background in offense. Jay Cutler might not know the history of the franchise he plays for, but he understands how trading out Lovie Smith for Trestman can improve both his and the Bears' fortunes in 2013. In an exclusive sitdown with NFL Network's Stacey Dales, the Bears quarterback spoke candidly about his optimism with Trestman running the show in Chicago. If Cutler had to kick some dirt on the prior staff to get his point across, so be it. "He really cares about the players in the locker room, which is different," Cutler told Dales. "Offensively, he wants to protect the quarterback, which makes me happy to hear that." Cutler has taken an absolute beating in recent years, which might explain the breakdown in his relationship with members of the prior regime. Source: NFL.com
I always thought and heard that Lovie was a 'players coach', and now he didn't care about the players? What the heck ever Cutler.
Think he's more being positive about Trestman than dissin' LS but that section above probably reflects his inner feelings most. The Bears did do an absolute crap job of protecting their investment in Cutler year after year & Cutler took the beating like a good soldier. kinda surprised he wasn't a bit harsher on Lovie TBH...
It's all good until the season starts and the Packers kick their butts again, then Cutler will be the first to blame everyone else for the Bears' struggles.
Yeah I let my hatred of Cutler get in the way of thinking rationally. Cutler did get knocked around too much in the Lovie era but I just don't like the dude. We will see my friend, we will see lol.
"He really cares about the players in the locker room, which is different," I think that Jay is speaking more for himself and the QB's when he said what he did about it being different. And, that's probably true. Lovie was never an offensive kinda' guy and probably didn't show much love to any of those guys. Lovie's focus was primarily on the defense and that's the one's who reaped the rewards from everthing I've ever seen and read about him. Sure, he was deeply, and weirdly, devoted to "Sexy Rexy", but after that, when Jay got there, his attention swayed away, like he didn't care for Jay being there. Anyway, it does no great service for Jay to lie about his perception of how the locker-room was somewhat divided when Lovie ran things. I hope that they're all a lot more comfortable now and keep their attitudes positive when we make this SB run in 2013! Keep the Faith and Bear Down! #BD
Not a big fan of his pouty ways but I guess the fact that he showed up with some QB #s & over 5' 10" helped me turn a blind eye a little. His recent commercial actually had me chucklin' a bit too: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aPgqfmSU4g]New Jay Cutler Commercial - YouTube[/ame] & who left the back door open & let that rank badger in here?
It seems like every year, at the start of the season, the Bears are all bro hugs and, "we have plan and are going to be great this year" and then the Packers beat them up, Cutler starts running for his life on every play and the finger pointing starts. I still seriously question the Bears' o-line and their defense. With Urlacher, theres a huge hole in the middle of their defense. I dont think the Bears will be able to lean on their defense to keep them in games like they have in the past.
