Adrian Peterson’s ACL rehab is the ACL rehab against which all others in sports are now compared, and likely always will be. The Vikings' running back and reigning NFL Most Valuable Player has finally acknowledged that status.

"I'm cool with that role," Peterson told USA Today. "It makes me feel good knowing I set the bar high ... It feels good when guys reach out to be inspired, and you have shown people an example of how you can come back and be better than you were before when adversity strikes; and when the world predicts the opposite, you show them you not only can be successful but be great."

Peterson tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on December 24, 2011 in Washington, but returned in time for the 2012 season opener, and rushed for 2,097 yards, eight yards short of the single-season record. This offseason, Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis and Texans linebacker Brian Cushing are recovering from ACL surgeries; all have heard the Peterson comparison, and Peterson has reached out to all of them to share his story, example and encouragement.

Griffin was injured in a playoff game in January.

I just hope all these guys realize that Peterson's results are not typical or realistic expectations.
For most of them, an ACL injury is pretty much a death sentence to their career.
