The Detroit Pistons have agreed on a four-year, $56 million contract with free-agent forward Josh Smith, sources told ESPN.com.

Smith's agent Brian d**e confirmed the signing to ESPN. Smith had also considered a return to the Atlanta Hawks and the Houston Rockets.

The Pistons intended to make a splash in free agency and targeted Smith from the first moments of free agency this week.

Smith looked at several other options in free agency, as did the Pistons before coming to terms.

Good pick up for Detroit, especially if they can keep him motivated.

Apparently he's going to play SF though, so probably not as ideal as I first thought.

He is a 3 and that's where they need him..

except for where he's played the 4 most of his career and putting him at the 3 is asking him to chuck stupid shots, which is one of his biggest flaws to begin with.

He started his career as a 3, then he was moved to 4. They'll just ask him to slash. I hope he knows by now that he can't shoot from distance. When they go small, he'll play 4. He's a better version of Tayshaun Prince
