The New York Jets have signed quarterback Geno Smith, their second-round draft pick, to a four-year contract that is worth about $5 million.

Smith, drafted 39th overall after an unexpected slide out of the first round in April, is competing with incumbent Mark Sanchez for the starting quarterback job.

Smith and Sanchez are competing in what has been called by team officials an "open competition," and neither noticeably outperformed the other in minicamp last month.

I dont mind Geno, i think he went to a circus which is going to hurt him but hes an overall decent player

no doubt he has the physical skills. i just think there are major red flags with his head. that's why he's probably a perfect fit with the jets. i think he will be a disaster in the nfl but i guess we will just have to see what happens.

If people were expecting him to be RG3 they were fooling themselves.

I think hes a good player, little erratic throwing down field but that can be fixed

But he wasn't that good, when he played against better teams he was bad, just like Manuel.

    sounds a LITTLE biased lol

Not like Tannehill was lighting up the SEC, all three were in very similar situations, all 3 had draft stock all over the place, and alll three ended up in the AFC east

Not in the slightest bit. And THill was running a pro style offense. Neither of the other two did that. But of the two Geno I think has a better shot at being something. I just don't see either being anything more than Tavaris Jackson.

Oh and THill wasn't playing in the SEC.

He was still playing QB for only 1 year. Im amazed he was as good as he was last year, success odds were definitely stacked against him, i really like what he brings to them.

I would compare Geno smith to alex smith honestly. He could be in for a bumpy first few years but should end up being all around an ok player, hes got a real high ceiling though.

Manuel is more like Mcnabb to me, he can be the guy in buffalo. He was every bit of the prospect Ponder was coming out of FSU and they traded down to get him, cant really knock them for that.

Will be interesting to see how they play out, rookie QB sensations last season have made sky high expectations for Geno, EJ to get some pretty bad teams out of the gutter.

Manuel is a much better prospect then Geno IMO

Manuel has massive upside, and physical talent Geno cant sniff. Not to say Manuel will be a stud, he has a very high bust potential. And even though I think the safer bets like Barkley and Wilson would have been better in the first, Manuel may be the only QB in this draft if the physical tools to be a Pro Bowler
