Owner Dan Snyder says the Washington Redskins never will change their team name, and generally has been unwilling to entertain political and media pleas to the contrary. But perhaps Snyder will listen to his former players. Hall of Fame wide receiver Art Monk believes a name change should be "seriously considered." "(If) Native Americans feel like Redskins or the Chiefs or (another) name is offensive to them, then who are we to say to them, 'No, it's not?'" Monk said Tuesday on WTOP-FM. Another Hall of Fame opinion: "It deserves and warrants conversation because somebody is saying, 'Hey, this offends me,'" Darrell Green commented. The drumbeat for possibly changing the Redskins' nickname never has been louder or more consistent than this offseason. Guys like Monk and Green speaking out on the matter might genuinely change the conversation. Source: NFL.com
I really hope that Snyder stands his ground on this one. Are people really offended by the names Redskins and Chiefs or are they just being told they need to be offended? What's next....PETA stepping in and wanting all teams with animals names to be changed because the animals are offended? Much respect for Green and Monk for what they did on the field, but none for this politically correct bullcrap.
Washington Hypocrite's is the name I'm rooting for. Because theres just so much hypocrisy in DC right now.
