Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Matt Spaeth is expected to miss eight to 10 weeks with a foot injury, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Friday.

The Steelers signed Spaeth this offseason in hopes he would fill in for Heath Miller, who is on the physically unable to perform list with a knee injury. Spaeth was carted off the field Wednesday and was diagnosed Friday with a lisfranc sprain, a dislocation of a bone in the middle of the foot.

Without Miller and Spaeth, the only healthy tight end with any extensive NFL experience on the Steelers is David Paulson. A 2012 seventh-round pick, Paulson made seven catches for 51 yards in 16 games as a rookie.

its a decently sized loss...he is really a terrific ZBS blocker because he blocks hard and is so long at 6-8...not the best TE but just because hes not fast and cant catch doesnt mean hes useless...the idea of adams and spaeth running a stretch play and moving downfield was a welcomed sight in my mind

Yea it's a bigger loss than I'd like to admit. We are hurting right now, and could have used his blocking at the very least.

I must've missed that signing. Think he'll stick there?

Wonder if the Eagles would trade Brent Celek...lol.

He may. Depends on what we do with our roster. We wont carry a FB, so we may 4TEs, but we also might carry 4 HBs.

Hes had a pretty solid TC and preseason thus far, and he fits what you guys need so he may be worth a call of he is cut

thats really not true....just because a TE isnt a huge WR that can stretch the field doesnt make him useless...if you want a ZBS blocking TE, a guy like spaeth is the guy you want

Did you see his stint in Chicago?

i know hes not a good receiver, he had more than a "stint" here but its a misconceptions that all TEs need to be fast and great receivers, he is neither of those things. But hes a long body that moves very well as part of a zone unit

Spaeth was dropping the easiest passes to catch (passes that you and I can catch) and wasn't a good blocker in Chicago. Yeah, Spaeth has a long body. AND??? Maybe he'll work in Pittsburgh. Then again, maybe not.
