Cam Newton threw a touchdown pass on Carolina's second possession and the Panthers upended the Chicago Bears, 24-17, in the preseason opener for both teams.

Cornerback Josh Norman had a pair of interceptions, one on Chicago's first offensive play and the other a 60-yard return for a TD in the third quarter.

Chicago's first offensive play resulted in a turnover as Jay Cutler's pass was intercepted. Norman later picked off a Matt Blanchard pass, and the return boosted the Panthers to a 21-10 lead.

Cutler played the entire first quarter and finished 6-of-8 for 56 yards. Josh McCown saw action in the second quarter and Blanchard ended 15-of-18 for 194 yards.

At first, I had flashbacks of yesteryear especially after that opening Cutler INT & getting depressed but then I realized...

Four offensive coordinators in five seasons will take a toll on any QB.

Also, explain to me why J'Marcus Webb is still on the roster.

Yea that offense didn't look good at all. Webb needs to be out of the league.

Lets see what preseason game #2 brings. I really didn't expect much from the offense given they where "supposed" to play only one series on Friday but that Cutler pick changed those plans.

New HC, new OC, new DC, revamped OL...

If that doesn't call for a little patience, I don't know what does.

While we finally re-tooled the OL after a millennium of neglect, I kinda wish Kromer wouldn't have to split his attention between OC & OLC. This group needs as much adult supervision as they can get.

& I'm still waiting to see what the Bears see in Webb. I just pray this hasn't escalated into a 'not knowing when to say when' scenario. It's mighty close with me if not already there.

I won't be storming the castle walls until the final preseason game. If it still remotely resembles ghosts of Bear season last, I'll be lighting the torches.

Oh yea im not saying it won't get better. I think they'll be good this year. But Webb really needs to be benched.

Whether it's left tackle, right tackle, Webb SUCKS.
