As if apologizing to fans for a loss and calling it a “crap performance†wasn’t enough attention to pay to a preseason game, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay took to Twitter Wednesday to argue that the prices of preseason tickets were not only “fair,’’ but that it balanced out what teams charge for important regular-season games—which he called “under-priced†by as much as “400%.†The implication, clearly, was that the Colts and other NFL teams would be justified in raising ticket prices on regular-season games considered “premiumâ€â€”a practice already in place in Major League Baseball and the NBA. Last week, the NFL Network reported that the league will closely study everything about this preseason with hopes to make games seem worth it to fans. That will include the possibility of lowering ticket prices, which are included in teams’ season-ticket packages. Source: Sporting News
So the business concept is over pay athletes, receive perks from politicians while getting money from various outside sources for stadiums & what not, etc. & then pass the cost down to fans with no requirement of a successful product. Can't take my daughter to a Bears game even at the 'under-priced' tickets, jag-off. Your asses should all be in jail...
It's true if you compare it to the MLB and NBA ticket pricing system. He's just saying that you pay the same price for Bears-Jaguars that you would for Bears-Packers, even though you could charge much more for the latter. I don't think he's saying all tickets are that underpriced, just the premium games.
It's all just smoke & mirrors, Steve He's just being a snake oil salesman telling us that we should be happy taking NFL's 10" up the butt on ticket prices cuz if they were to play by MLB/NBA standards we'd get 12". Screw 'em...
over the last year, Irsay has become one of my least favorite owners. I think the guy is literally losing his mind. His family needs to check him for Alzheimers or something. Regardless of the fact that he shouldn't give the perception of 'greed' by saying something like this publicly as an owner to nfl fans (just plain stupid), his assertion is inaccurate from a simple business philosophy. Currently, most teams are not selling 100% of their tickets each year. 22 teams, in fact, failed to sell every ticket. That clearly shows that price/supply are currently outweighing demand in most cities. If the league raises prices even MORE, demand will fall even MORE and these teams that are only selling 80% of their tickets each year will go down even more to 70%, 60%, etc. I seriously doubt the owners of the dolphins, bucs, chargers, and rams agree with Irsay's ramblings. If anything, they are probably considering lowering their ticket prices because some of the crowds they are pulling in are embarassing.
