The Miami Dolphins got closer to finalizing the actual team on Tuesday, trimming nine players, which includes a few veterans, from the team, Omar Kelly of the South Florida-Sun Sentinel reports.

Fullback Jorvorskie Lane, a starter in 2012, offensive guard Lance Louis, and receiver Julius Pruitt were the most prominent players released when the Dolphins trimmed the roster to 75.

Also released on Tuesday were receivers Andrell Smith and Jeff Fuller, who spent all of last year on the Dolphins’ practice squad, defensive end Emeka Onyenekwu, and linebackers Michael Clay, David Hinds and Nathan Williams. Fuller as the only player who wasn’t a rookie in that batch.

The biggest surprise was Louis’ release because the five-year veteran, who was nine months into rehabbing an ACL injury, was expected to push John Jerry for the starting right guard spot.

I'm sad to see Lance Louis get cut but apparently his ACL was not fully healed. So I understand the Dolphins decision in cutting him.

Word on the street is that Louis will be brought back when his salary isn't guaranteed.
