New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin's 67th birthday just so happened to fall on the same day (Saturday) that NFL teams must whittle their rosters down to 53 players; a day that is not Coughlin's favorite of the year. On Saturday, the team announced that it terminated the contracts of running back Ryan Torain and quarterback David Carr. Even with a recent injury to running back Andre Brown, Torian couldn't make the final cut. The Giants will begin the season with starter David Wilson, Brown, Da'Rel Scott and Michael Scott in the backfield. Torain showed promise in New York's offense, particularly in pass protection, but the injury-prone back couldn't avoid the axe. Source: NFL.com
