Geno Smith may be the Jets starting quarterback against Darrelle Revis and the Bucs, but there is no guarantee he’ll be starting anything beyond that, Seth Walder of the New York Daily News reports. The Jets unleashed their triple threat Wednesday -- Rex Ryan, GM John Idzik and owner Woody Johnson -- and from every angle they made it clear that the competition is continuing into the regular season.

“We’ll always put the best player we can on the field on Sunday, and that will continue,†Johnson said. “The competition’s ongoing.â€

“Competition is our mantra,†Idzik said. “It’s really a mindset with us. “Competition will always be ongoing, no matter where you are on the roster.â€

Ryan was asked if the starting quarterback position was going to evaluated on a week-to-week basis.

“Our focus is strictly on this game,†Ryan said. “So whether week-to-week, I don’t know what the heck, we’re not thinking past Tampa. This whole team is not thinking past Tampa in anything.â€

Good idea to do this during the season. Then after Rex is fired, start it all over again in 2014...

It's almost like Mangini never left.

I think it's worse, Mangina never opened his mouth like Rex does.

They really need to give up on sanchez already and let geno smith develop.
