Robert Meachem is going back to the New Orleans Saints. The team's first-round pick in the 2007 draft is set to rejoin the team after being released by the San Diego Chargers, ESPN.com reports. Meachem cashed in as a free agent with $5 million guaranteed from the Chargers last season, but he never struck good chemistry with Philip Rivers as a speedy downfield target. The 29-year-old had lost a few steps from the time he was connecting with Drew Brees in New Orleans and was expendable, despite San Diego's injury issues at wideout. Meachem was a key deep threat for the Saints' high-powered passing game, and helped them win the Super Bowl after the 2009 season. Source: Sporting News
He's a back up option in case of injury. Kenny Stills looked nice in the opener with his 2 catches. Brees likes the younger guys. No reason to believe Meachem gets significant playing time.
