The Redskins have released defensive end Phillip Merling and placekicker John Potter according to Rich Tandler of CSNWashington.com.

Apparently, Merling's services were no longer necessary with the returns of defensive end Jarvis Jenkins and outside linebacker Rob Jackson from their four-game suspensions.

Sweets's Take: Merling is out of a job yet again, seems like he hasn't been the same since he tore his achilles tendon, not that he was a great game changer or anything. He did intercept a Favre pass and return it for a TD in 2008, too bad he hasn't done much since then.

kinda figured as much with Jenkins and Jackson coming back.

For those who were in the league in '08 and before: Who DIDN'T pick off Brett Favre?
