Can The Titans Defense Contain 49ers TE Vernon Davis?

The San Francisco 49ers entered the 2013-14 season with what looked to be a strong group of receivers: Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin, Mario Manningham, Kyle Williams and possibly even A.J. Jenkins.

Then reality happened, and both Crabtree and Manningham were injured, Jenkins was confirmed to be a waste of a first-round pick and Williams continues to slum it out in the "is really good for two plays per game" category, Patton is injured and Kaepernick has, to this point, struggled.

markaz's Take: Throughout the turmoil of the Niners WR corps in this young 2013 season, the constants have been Boldin and Davis and they are even excelling when their names were rarely mentioned in the preseason. If only every other team could have such troubles!

I was reading that during the 18 play drive to close out the game against AZ, they had 9-10 in the box on every play lol. When the guys are blocking well enough against that kind of scheme its takes the will right out of the opposing D. This week will be another huge challenge going on the road against a team with tough defense, good run game and a QB with wheels who hasn't made many mistakes this year.

You put your #1 or #2 cover guy on him, whichever one Is bigger. Then you mix coverages, making sure he is getting bracketed, when appropriate. Its not rocket surgery. If a team has the right game plan and the right personnel, he can be contained.
