Brandon Meriweather has a well-earned reputation as a head-hunter in the Washington Redskins' secondary. His unwillingness (or inability) to change his playing style has taken him off the field. The NFL announced Monday that Meriweather has been suspended without pay for two games for repeat violations this season of NFL safety rules prohibiting hits to the head and neck area of defenseless players. two games is not much. Back in the day that would be applauded as a good hit but the winds of change has blown in and now it is a no no.
I'm not surprised that Meriweather is appealing but I find it funny that this clown thinks he has a case.
Hits like this are the reason why he is getting suspended. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2iGzAJIHX8]Cheap hit by Meriweather on Heap - YouTube[/ame]
when you look at things, meriweather is nearly as bad at cheap shots than rodney harrison was. meriweather deserves a 4 game suspension at least, but hearing rodney harrison talking about how bad he is and not saying anything about what a dirty player he was is like the pot berating the kettle because it is black! seriously,do not know who the dirtier player was, harrison or andre waters with meriweather in between?
I'm trying to convince myself that those hits were "bad." Having a hard time doing it. I think if anyone else does that, there's no talk about it.
i thought the second was iffy, but the 1st one was a blatant cheap shot. anyway,he knows the refs are gonna be watching him like a hawk,or he should know.
If Merriweather doesn't make that hit, that's probably a TD in that first clip and in both clips the receiver lowers the head. IMO.
The NFL is basically covering it's butt by flagging every hit they see as a penalty. they call anything half way close every single time. i have yet to see one of the new lower your head rules called on a rb this season, has anybody else?
^^^ no I haven't. and as far as flagging everything the refs see, it is always the defense that gets flagged. and the offense gets a fresh set of downs and then goes on to win the game. the league may come back afterwards with a token "my bad" but it is still a loss.
